Overview
For students ready for a real challenge, Advanced Robotics combines complex builds, independent problem-solving, and competition-style robotics.
Students work through tougher missions inspired by real engineering and robotics competitions, where performance, reliability, strategy, and iteration all matter. They’re given more freedom to plan, build, test, and improve their own solutions.
What to Expect
🏆 Competition-style robotics challenges with goals, constraints, scoring, and multiple possible solutions
🤖 Larger, more complex robot builds using multiple motors, sensors, and mechanisms
💻 Advanced programming involving sensor feedback, logic, autonomous behaviours, and more complex sequences
🧩 Real engineering challenges that require strategy, creativity, and technical problem-solving
🔧 Repeated testing and optimization to make robots faster, more accurate, and more reliable
🧠 Greater independence, with students planning and developing more of their own solutions
👥 Small groups with a maximum of 10 students
👩🏫 Guidance from university engineering students and CEGEP STEM students, including students from McGill, Concordia, John Abbott, Brébeuf, and other leading schools
What They'll Learn
Students will learn how to:
Design robots around specific goals and constraints
Combine multiple motors, sensors, and mechanisms into one system
Develop more advanced autonomous programs
Use sensor feedback and logic to make robots respond intelligently
Build and refine mechanical systems for specific tasks
Troubleshoot complex hardware and programming problems
Analyze performance and identify areas for improvement
Optimize robots for speed, precision, reliability, and consistency
Develop strategy for competition-style challenges
Work increasingly independently through the engineering design process
Rather than being shown exactly how to complete every challenge, students are given a mission and the tools to solve it. They experiment with different approaches, compare results, and continuously improve their designs, much like engineers and competitive robotics teams do.
Each week introduces a new engineering or competition-style mission, pushing students to apply previous skills while developing increasingly sophisticated solutions.
Why Bright Labz?
Because the best learning happens when kids are genuinely challenged.
Advanced Robotics is designed for students who want to go beyond simply making a robot work. They learn to design, compete, optimize, and solve problems independently, developing the technical and problem-solving skills used in real engineering and competitive robotics.
