The Bright Labz Challenge

Can your robot park itself?

This parking puzzle is a first step into robotics. In our Fall 2026 classes, your child can take that same curiosity further by building real robots, writing code, and solving new challenges.

See the thinking in action: move, check, park!

See the thinking in action: move, check, park!

Animated solution: repeat 4 times, move 1 square, check the space, turn left 90 degrees into empty Space 3, move 1 square and stop.

How does it work?

Repeat up to 4 times: move forward 1 square, then check the space to the left. Spaces 1 and 2 are full, so the robot keeps going. Space 3 is empty: turn left 90°, move forward 1 square, and stop the program. Parked!

The loop repeats the search. The “if” condition decides when to park. Stopping the program means the robot stays parked, even before all 4 repeats are finished.

⭐ BONUS CHALLENGE

What if Space 3 was full too?

How would you change your code so the robot keeps searching for the next empty space?
